Control Stick

Control sticks were built and assembled per the plans. The connecting steel control rod was welded including rossette welds for safety.

I used the flatbed of the shear and two 90’s to set the control sticks up and made an final adjustment to the control rod.

The control sticks are installed in the rocket temporarily. The hardest part was actually installing the delrin bushings. I found that I was able to use a small piece of tubing the same diameter as the control stick busing holder along with an aluminum bushing to plunge the delrin bushing into the control stick without deforming it. The stick will be primed and painted for final assembly.

Back in the plane I set the sticks at a 90 to the floor and set the intermediate control rod length.

On the other end of the intermediate control rod the bellcrank was set perpendicular t the floor using a drill bit in the center hole of the bellcrank. Final tweaking gave me our maximum up and down travel at the tail. The larger aluminum control tube can only “split” the total travel between up and down. The additional travel needed to use the mod bellcrank took some work to get right.
